Until the launch of Picosecond, Q-Switched lasers had been considered the gold standard for removing tattoos. Q-switched laser treatments use thermal energy to heat up and break apart the ink particles. Now with Picosecond lasers, ultra-short pulses (one trillionth of a second in length!) hit the ink particle with a pressure so great, the ink shatters into tiny dust-like particles. Because the particles are so small, they are more readily absorbed and eliminated by the body. This can mean better clearance of the tattoo and significantly less treatments overall.

Picosecond vs. Nanosecond Technology

Traditional nanosecond lasers predominately rely on photothermal action, delivering heat to the pigment and surrounding tissue. Picosecond lasers take advantage of PressureWave Technology to shatter the target ink into tiny particles that are easily eliminated by the body.

Tattoo Removal Has Never Been Easier or As Fast

Unlike other types of lasers that rely at least partially on photo-thermal action (heating the tissue) to break up pigments, the Picosecond laser uses pressure-wave technology to create a photo-mechanical reaction that breaks apart pigments into tiny fragments that can be removed more easily and more quickly by the body's natural waste removal processes. Because the resulting fragments are so much tinier with the Picosecond laser and can be removed so much more efficiently by the body, patients require fewer sessions to get the results they want, and results tend to be considerably better when compared to traditional laser systems used in tattoo removal.
